Skincare Routine - AM

Bonjour!

It's been a while since I 'did' my skincare routine so without further ado here's the morning bunch I've been using over the last few months  ...

The products go from right to left ... because I didn't think and just photographed them that way ...!

Balance Me Pure Skin Face Wash - reviewed here. An old favourite that I've been using on and off for a few years now. Described as being suitable for normal/combination skin - I tend to turn to it in Summer as it's so refreshing and is ideal for a morning wash but doesn't dry my skin out.  I took a travel size on holiday this year and it was perfect for both myself and my daughter!

Alpha H Balancing Cleanser - another one I've used before and I've alternated it with the Balance Me Face Wash over the last few months.  This supersize came with a TSV from QVC so was excellent value for money - it gives a good cleanse and can be used am or pm but I've mainly been using it in the morning.   This particular tube is coming to an end now but it's one I'd definitely go for again as it's not thick or heavy but is more like a lotion in texture, it just slips over the skin as you massage in - I love the fact that it contains aloe vera and we all know how good for skin that is!

Alpha H Absolute Eye Complex - I reviewed this a good couple of years ago and always try to get hold of it in a kit or when it's on offer. I don't use it every morning but alternate with the Idealia Eyes below - it's great for pepping up extra-tired eyes as it feels so cooling and revitalising.  It contains ingredients to temporarily lift and tighten, detoxify and gently resurface and you can apply all over the eye area, top and bottom lid right up to the lash line.

Vichy Idealia Eyes - this was reviewed fairly recently here. Great product for helping with dark circles and dullness and certainly brightens up the eye area on a morning. I especially reach for it when I have my contacts in and my eyes are exposed in all their 'non-glory' to the whole world! We don't want to scare anyone do we!

Liz Earle Instant Boots Skin Tonic- needs no introduction or explanation even! One of my all time favourite toners for refreshing and moisturising that's actually nearly finished.  I do dip into other brands but I'm sure this will be a constant repurchase on and off for years to come!

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant - I received this sample in a beauty box ages ago. I only use it every few days (as I use other types of exfoliants at different stages in the week) but I love it as it's so gentle and just gives a little bit of a polish without scratching or irritating the skin.

Nuxe Nuxellence Jeunesse Youth and Radiance Revealing Fluid - this was included in a Nuxe travel kit a while ago and I didn't really know what to expect - after all I'm slightly addicted to my Vichy Aqualia Thermal below!  It can be used am and/or pm but I stick to the morning as I'm addicted to facial oils of a night-time! It has a light but velvety texture, glides on and sinks in easily and does seem to deliver as my skin seems smoothed and brightened - I'm impressed. I tend to save it for when my skin is feeling a bit lacklustre and dull and then use for a few days on the go. It's a bit expensive at £47/50ml so I'll wait until there is a decent offer on to repurchase the full size. I'd be interested to see how it compares to the Vichy Idealia Life Serum which I've yet to try - so that could be a little experiment in the making!

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum - I really don't feel the need to harp on about this one - I've done so many times before and reviewed it what seems like a lifetime ago - it's such a great product for a hit of cooling hydration over the summer months!  I've repurchased many times and already have another put away for a rainy day or should I say rainy summertime!

Olay Essentials Complete Care SPF30 Day Lotion - this was an impulse buy a few months ago - I don't always use a separate SPF (as I can't stand too many 'layers of stuff' on my face at times) so  this seemed like a good all rounder.  Have to say I'm really surprised - it's a good consistency, goes on and absorbs easily and keeps my skin feeling comfortable all day and doesn't break me out - of course I am using a couple of good serum based products up above and that obviously makes a difference!   I'm really not into spending a fortune on face cream and this does the job perfectly and was a complete bargain as it was something like under a fiver on offer. I have a feeling it may no longer be available now as I can't find it online but I have another stashed away for now!

So that's been my morning skincare routine over the Summer months. Have you used any of these products ...which is your favourite?

February Empties ...

Bonjour!

I haven't done an 'Empties' post for a while so thought I'd share a few bits I've finished up recently ...

Charles Worthington Strength and Repair Pro-Heat Milk - I use this practically every time I dry my hair to smooth and protect.  I can see this being a regular repurchase (I'm into my second bottle!) - full review is here.

Sure Crystal Invisible Aqua Anti-Perspirant - unfortunately I'll not repurchase this one - it works fine as an anti-perspirant and smells ok but the fumes (if that's the right word) are really strong and seem to hang around suspended in the air (even with the bathroom window wide open) and catch in my throat - must be because it's all trapped in there or something!

Liz Earle Energising Body Scrub - I've used this on and off for years  (usually take one with me on holiday!) - it's non scratchy, yet effective and smells lovely and uplifting - one of my all time favourite scrubs - I'll repurchase once I've finished my large stash!

Le Petit Marseillais Shower Milk - brought this back from France last year (I have a thing about French toiletries!)  - don't ask me to translate word for word but basically it's a hydrating and nourishing body wash that I've found really comforting to use when the old hide has felt a bit dried out this winter.

Bare Minerals Original Foundation SPF 15 in Medium Tan - another product I've used for years now - mainly for work and nights out. It's just so easy to stick on - even when you're half awake in the morning and gives great coverage without looking heavy - it's a regular repurchase!

DHC Deep Cleansing Oil - and another regular repurchase - been using this particular bottle since September as an evening cleanse as it's excellent at removing make-up.  Full review here.  I've just bought another cleansing oil and balm to use (darn the inquisitive beauty blogger in me!) so will see how they compare.

Mandara Spa Amber Heaven Softening Body Cream and Conditioning Shower Cream - love the warm scent of this range, gorgeous to use in Winter. These two came as part of a reduced post- Christmas gift set so ended up costing about £1 each - bargain or what!

So those are my empties ... what have you got through this month?

May Empties ...!

Bonjour!

So now we're into June and the very last school term ... even my son recently commented that this year is passing by really quickly!  Just a few empties from last month then ...

Liz Earle Hand Repair - all finished up. Although I  do like this hand cream it doesn't stretch as far as I'd like for the price so I'd only repurchase in a kit. Full review here.
Emma Hardie Natural Lift and Sculpt Firming Eye Serum - I've been faffing around with this bottle for months to get the product out! Unfortunately I'll not be repurchasing - my full review is here.
Sanctuary Spa Body Butter - this was included in a three part Christmas set which was half price in the Boots sale so an absolute bargain. Love these body butters, they go on easily and smell great! What more can I say?
Bare Minerals Original SPF 15 Foundation in Medium Beige - my go-to foundation on work days - love it! Have used it for years (obviously not this particular pot!) and can't believe I've not blogged about it properly yet (having said that there are loads of products that fall into the same category!). Have a couple of spare pots in my stash so no need to panic!
Nuxe Reve de Miel and L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Creams - love the pair of em!  I have a little stash of mini L'Occitane hand creams courtesy of my mum and the Nuxe handbag size was part of a cheeky little Nuxe kit last year. They're both soothing and softening and I'd buy again.
Philosophy Summer Grace Eau de Toilette - this was a January sales bargain from the year before last. It's another one of those that makes me want to constantly sniff my wrist - love it. Smells very clean to me and the scent really lingers. Now ... living with my hubby I have to say I am more than familiar with lingering scents but this is definitely one I would not want to leave the room for!!

I've always been a bit of a Dairy Milk girl (although I am partial to Terry's Choc Orange!) and am obsessed with Fruit & Nut at the moment (I should point out that I did not devour this all in one sitting - it was consumed gradually over a week and I even let the hubby have a couple of blocks - so generous am I!) - I will most definitely be re-purchasing ... !

What products have you used up this month? Are you in the Dairy Milk field or do you sway towards Galaxy?

Liz Earle Orange Flower Hand Wash and Hand Repair - Review

Bonjour!

I've used the Liz Earle Orange Flower Hand Wash and Hand Repair on and off  for a while - these two came as part of a QVC kit - which made them very cost effective ...!

A picture of Liz Earle Orange Flower Hand Wash and Liz Earle Hand Repair
A picture of Liz Earle Orange Flower Hand Wash and Liz Earle Hand Repair
A picture of Liz Earle Orange Flower Hand Wash and Liz Earle Hand Repair

First up the Orange Flower Hand Wash -  formulated with foaming agents derived from corn and coconut and including ingredients such as organic oats, rose-scented geranium, natural vitamin E and sweet orange essential oils. It is one of the most gentle and non-drying hand washes I've used - like washing your hands in liquid silk, completely non-drying and comforting, even when the old eczema is rearing it's ugly head. I don't feel the need to immediately smother my hands in cream and the delicate sweet orange aroma hangs around so I have to stop myself from constantly sniffing my hands - people would think I'm weird!

The Hand Repair contains echinacea, hops, beta-carotene and natural vitamin E plus a cocktail of essential oils including lavender, neroli and chamomile.  It's always been comforting on the old hands - even on 'sore days' and is great for daytime use - you can just stick it on with no excess rubbing and run out the door without any sticky or greasy residue. The lovely fresh lavender scent comes through and lingers so it's another 'hand sniffing' product!

The Orange Flower Hand Wash comes in at £10.75/200ml bottle and the Hand Repair is around £15.75/100ml pump so I don't consider either to be super-cheap. I'd accept both with open arms as part of a kit (as I have in the past!) and maybe re-purchase the Hand Wash as I find it so soothing - plus you don't need a to use a load of product. However, even though it's a lovely hand cream, I have to use rather more of the Hand Repair than I'd like when my hands are at their most dry, so probably wouldn't buy alone - if that makes sense!

Have you used the Liz Earle Orange Flower Hand Wash or Liz Earle Hand Repair? What are your staple 'handcare' products?

Birthday Bits ...!

Bonjour!

So you may or may not know that it was my birthday recently - actually it was a while ago now!   The day consisted of some shopping, some family and some food! My musician brother was home so he cooked a 'birthday' curry and my other brother was over in France (where he lives), so he sat within the confines of the laptop (on Skype) situated on the piano to be exact, watching over us and chatting whilst we had dinner - it was like having all the family in the same room! Here are some of my lovely pressies ...!

The Body Shop Bath and Shower Gels from my friend, L'Occitane and Gatineau goodies from my lovely mum. Mac lippie in Lady Danger from a friend and the hubby treated me to the Liz Earle Botanical Essence No15 (love it!), Real Techniques Core Collection and Philip Kingsley Scalp Mask - good to know he has my scalp's best interests at heart!

Bought myself the No7 Illuminated Make-Up Mirror (half price) with money from a good friend (now I'll be able to see all my wrinkles and open pores illuminated and magnified!) and couldn't resist this long-line 'Run DMC' distressed T from New Look - go me! The lovely bright scarf came all the way from my Aunt in sunny Melbourne, Australia - thanks Auntie J! x

My brother's tasty Sinhalese style chicken curry with aubergine, red pepper and fresh coriander and mum's wonderful triple layer milk choc birthday cake - once you start eating it you can't stop!

So yes - I can't complain - it was good! The only spanner in the works was caused by the boiler packing up at the end of the day - luckily after we had cooked and eaten but there was no long hot pampering soak in the bath that night!  Thankfully we managed to get it sorted pretty sharpish (I nearly hugged the plumber!) - washing hands in cold water was painful after a while! NEVER underestimate the power of a good boiler or a good plumber for that matter chaps!

What do you think of my birthday bits then?  Have you ever hugged your plumber?

March Empties ... & Misses!

Bonjour!

To put it mildly it's been a bit hectic round these parts so a bit late with my March empties but never mind eh?  ...

Noble Isle Summer Rising Bath and Shower Gel - from a beauty box ages ago. What a gorgeous product, really does smell of summertime, flowers and sunshine. It's expensive but would love the hubby to buy this as a pressie for me sometime as a little treat!

Mandara Spa Tropical Blooms Softening Body Cream - lovely - heady and floral. Not the quickest to rub in (so I tend to save it for weekends) but it does leave skin soft and the fragrance lingers for ages.   Definitely will repurchase (again) and Mandara Spa are on offer frequently in Sainsburys so even better!

Maybelline Colossal Volum'Express Mascara in Black - I haven't had much success with Maybelline mascaras in the past. This one is ok but not brilliant - it doesn't make my lashes colossal or anything. I don't know - I've used big brushes before but the bristles in this one don't overly get on with my lashes and the formula seems a bit thin - just not feeling the colossal love unfortunately - shame!

Balance Me Super Moisturising Hand Cream - this is described as a blend of skin conditioners, butters and oil meant to help out even the driest of hands? I think I can safely say that my hands fall into this category! I prefer to apply last thing at night as it's quite rich but lovely and moisturising on my sore dry hands.

Liz Earle Nourishing Botanical Body Cream - a regular repurchase - love this as it's so gentle but soothing. Wish I could afford to use it all the time but I can't so tend to save it for days when my eczema is playing up or my skin feels extra irritated and it works wonders!

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Topcoat - this really does get your nails touch dry in a jiffy with a lovely glossy finish. Unfortunately my nail polish didn't last much longer than a couple of days (that would be nothing short of a miracle!) and now it's gone all gloopy and sticky with still a third left in the bottle so I'll have to chuck it!

L'Oreal Revitalift 10 Repair Daily Moisturiser - I've used (and liked) the BB from the same range so thought this would be a good choice of day moisturiser but it's not worked for me.  I don't feel that it moisturises enough and every time I take it onto my neck it brings my eczema out so going to have to give up on it.  There's still a little left so will have to use it on my elbows or feet or something!

What have you used up last month? Have you had any 'misses'?

February Empties ... !

Bonjour!

February Empties here (which you probably gleaned from the post title) - a bit late but hey-ho ...!

Soap & Glory Hand Food - I usually have several hand creams on the go - in situ in different rooms - reminds me to stick some on from time to time (this one was tucked away in the living room!).  I do like a bit of S&G 'Hand Food' (who doesn't?), was part of a kit with the hand wash (you know the one!)  Lovely hand cream, hydrates, soothes and smells great!

Tesco Smoothing Body Lotion -  can't do without some sort of body lotion/butter after a shower/bath. I've repurchased this one with Aloe Vera (and the Cocoa Butter version) many times over. They are so easy and quick to apply, absorb in an instant and are super cheap - great for everyday use and/or when you're in a rush to get your clobber on and get out the door/on the settee!

Coco Chanel Parfum - you just cannot beat a bit of Chanel! This is one of my favourite fragrances - the hubby bought it for my birthday a few years ago and I've only used it for very special occasions. Only the dregs are left now (that's a hint if he happens to read this!) - not chucking the bottle though - it's a lovely keepsake!

Gatineau Floracil Eye Make-Up Remover - I've used this 200 ml supersize for the last 4(ish) months and it's another product I should have done a full review on! It's gentle and non-oily, soothing and non-drying but effective at removing heavy eye make-up. Can also be used as a cooling eye-compress to revive tired eyes. A great product - I'm already on my second supersize!

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Light - at last something I have done a full review on - here! Yep a great product for hydration and its been ideal for layering with my Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate during the colder months. I should have really included this in last months empties but it was hiding at the back of the drawer - am well into my second pot and will repurchase (although Boots don't seem to be stocking it at the moment which is rather worrying!).

Le Petit Marseillais Peach and Nectarine Shower Gel - brought this back from last year's holiday in France (actually my daughter brought it back and I pinched it!). Gorgeous uplifting scent, reminds me of ripe fruit, summer sun and holiday - hoping to grab some more when we next pop across the water!

Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic - another 'Instant Boost' emptied out! Needs no introduction and still one of my favourites. Already got my next one open and in use!

Do you use any of these products? What have you managed to empty out recently?

Boost My Radiance ...!!

Bonjour!

I am not a fan of Winter - and that's putting it mildly! Why we can't just hibernate like animals is beyond me - or at least half hibernate!  Despite using some lovely products, I need a helping hand at this time of year to help with rubbish skin days, we're talking lackslustre, dull, grey, yellow etc. Here's where this little lot comes in ...!

A picture of Radiance Boosters

Vichy Idealia BB Cream - if you read my waffle you'll know I'm a big fan of this BB. It's perfect for 'not so much make-up' days and helps me to look more human - if you know what I mean! Full review here

Gatineau Radiance Enhancing Gommage - a non-granular, enzyme based exfoliant to brighten and smooth.  Great to use on a morning/pre night out to pep things up or before applying a favourite facial mask for a bit of a pamper. Full review here.

Elemis Pro-Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm - this was a magazine freebie. It can be used as a primer, light moisturiser or flash balm.  It didn't work for me as a primer, my make up slid off my face after a couple of hours - shame - but it's lovely as a morning moisturiser - hydrating and brightening or for applying sparingly to your kite for a bit of radiance.

Gatineau Active Eclat Flash Radiance - I should have done a full review on this little beauty - love it. A lightweight serum which can be applied over moisturiser, mixed with foundation or patted gently over make-up. It's wakes your face up and gives you a glow. For me, personally. this has the edge over the Elemis Flash Balm (sorry Elemis!) and I use it every time I have a dull day (or a hangover!).

Liz Earle Brightening Treatment Mask - I've used this mask for years, it's so quick and easy. Just apply after a morning cleanse, leave on for 30 seconds - 2 minutes and rinse off.  It gives a healthy 'just been for a brisk walk' glow - a great quick fix and it smells good too!

Bare Minerals Clear Radiance - this was part of a QVC kit some time ago. Bare Minerals have various versions of 'Radiance' - this one is a soft flesh tone which can be used to highlight or give a subtle glow over the cheekbones. I like to sweep a small amount over a matte blusher to add a bit of luminosity now and again.

Bare Radiance in the pot below ...

A picture of Bare Minerals Clear Radiance

and then swatched ...

A picture of Bare Minerals Clear Radiance

So that's my current arsenal for adding a bit of radiance - always good to have a trick or two up your sleeve and the more the better don't you think?

What are your favourite brightening/radiance enhancing products?

Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate - Review

Bonjour!

Call me predictable but yes the Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate was included in a QVC kit from a while ago. These kits are such good value that you end up paying a fraction of the actual price of the product -it's a no brainer!

A picture of Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate
A picture of Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate

A little info from the Liz Earle website ...
"The intense, aromatic blend of 100% pure plant oils in this rich, rebalancing night-time treat is suitable for all skin types. It helps to soften dry or mature skin and balance combination or oily skin.
Use at night after cleansing and toning (but before moisturising).
Naturally active ingredients include softening argan and organic rosehip oils, soothing neroli, lavender and chamomile essential oils plus antioxidant natural source vitamin E."
(source)

Over winter, with the cold and central heating etc etc  my skin suffers the usual de-hydration and dullness. I introduced the Superskin Concentrate into my nightly routine a few months ago. I apply after toning and under moisturiser several times a week and massage in mainly over my cheeks - it alleviates any dry or tight feeling immediately - I then take the excess over my t-zone and chin.  It has a wonderfully aromatic strong scent which I find both relaxing and slightly addictive.  I love the fact that my skin feels nourished and have actually been known to do a surprised double take (through very bleary eyes!) first thing in the morning, as it leaves skin visibly plumped, smoothed and balanced.

You may know (as I bang on about it often enough!) that I also suffer from eczema breakouts from time to time with dry, red, flaky patches on my cheeks.  I have massaged the Superskin Concentrate gently into these areas every night during a flare up.  It soothes and hydrates and basically just clears it up. Whenever I suspect a breakout now this is the first thing I reach for to keep things under control.

So I'm thinking that the Superskin Concentrate is turning into one of my desert island products and possibly my favourite of the Liz Earle range.  It works wonders on my dry bits, my oily bits and my eczema bits - I think that covers all my bits!  I have the 10ml rollerball which is £20 to buy alone and although it is expensive a little goes a very long way so I don't need to panic just yet but it's definitely something I'd repurchase as a Winter skincare saviour!

Have you tried the Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate? What is your Winter skincare saviour?

2013 Favourites ...

Bonjour!

Can it really be a whole year since I did a round up of annual favourites - time flies when you're having 'blogging' fun! I've used quite a few worthwhile products last year but these are the ones that stand out for me ...

Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray - a magazine freebie which has become a firm (not literally!) favourite for volume. I tend to save for special occasions and as soon as I finish my existing plethora of hair products I will repurchase. Review here.
Gatineau Radiance Gommage - this has become my favourite exfoliating product, brightening, smoothing yet gentle - review here.
DHC Deep Cleansing Oil - I first used a travel size on holiday and liked it so much I decided to get the full size. Great cleanser, very effective - review here.
Vichy Aqualia Serum (review here), Vichy Idealia BB Cream (review here) and Vichy Aqualia Thermal Light (review here- I know this must seem like a 'Vichy' tribute but these products really suit my skin, combination/sensitive/dehydrated with eczema prone areas, I'm on my 3rd serum and 2nd pot of cream and will repurchase the BB when it finishes.
Soap & Glory Super-Colour FabuLipstick in Naked Beige my perfect nude,  it's so easy to wear. Review here.
Mally Evercolour Waterproof Eyeliners in Midnight and Black Violet - although I only reviewed this duo at the start of December I've been using them for months and love them to bits, remember the line 'Only the 'crumbliest, flakiest chocolate - tastes like chocolate never tasted before ...' - well substitute the words silkiest, creamiest, eyeliner and application in the appropriate places and you should get the picture! Review here
Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate - a product I've been using for the past few months - a proper plumper! My skin loves it a few times a week under moisturiser. Review will follow.

And lastly, a firm favourite I've gotten back into last year ...

Nice lemons! Yes, the humble yet mighty lemon - I drink a cup of hot boiled water with a few squeezes of lemon juice, first thing, most mornings and I think it really helps to keep skin clear as well as a multitude of other benefits. You get used to the early morning 'zing' (I'm not being rude here!) and I actually miss it when I don't have time to have my lemon water!

So those are my favourites from 2013 that I'm taking into 2014 - have you used any of them?

November Favourites and Empties ...

Bonjour!

Can you believe it's December? It's ridiculous ... be the end of the year soon and I can't get my head round it!  November favourites then (and a couple of empties thrown in for good measure!) ...

John Frieda Luxurious Volume Dry Shampoo - got this ages ago, used it on and off and it's just come to an end.  It has a pleasant 'clean' smell and is more on the 'wet' side of the dry shampoo spectrum. It refreshes hair but doesn't dry up greasy roots so much or add loads of body - on the plus side though it doesn't mattify or leave any build up/gunk in your hair. It's a bit pricey so probably wouldn't repurchase unless it was on offer.

Gatineau Activ Eclat Flash Radiance - I've so needed a boost of radiance over the past few weeks. This is a brilliant product for 'faking it' when your skin is looking a bit grey and dowdy - just press a tiny amount onto the old leather lace, either under or over make-up and you're good to go - it wakes up your skin and gives it a glow!

Original Source Orange and Cinnamon Shower Gel - I love this shower gel - it's so warm and sweet and zingy all at once - a real pick me up! Problem is, it was a Seasonal Edition (only I can't remember which season we were in when I bought it!) and can't seem to find it anywhere otherwise I would repurchase - rubbish!

Soap & Glory Super-Colour FabuLipstick in Naked Beige - I can't get enough of this lippie! This is my perfect nude - it's so wearable I'm constantly sticking it on most days with reckless abandon! You can see my full review here - will be repurchasing!

Q Radiance The Fine Fragrance Body Spray - got this in a beauty box ages ago and shoved it in my gym bag the other week. What a lovely body spray - it's floral but fresh and great after a sweaty gym session! I've seem it in Sainsbury's at £2.29 so will be repurchasing when it finishes.

Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate - I've been using this since the weather turned colder, several nights a week under my moisturiser and my skin has been lapping it up - review to follow shortly!

Calvin Klein Eternity Moment - one of my favourite fragrances now finished (maybe the hubby will replace for Christmas or at least buy me another in the sales!). Fresh flowers - lingers on the skin for ages - love it!

Ah - old Trev has certainly been a favourite this month and has kept me company in the car on many a dreary journey. Great triple album - hope he makes another!

What have your favourites been this November? What music have you been playing in your car?

Holiday Skincare ...!

Bonjour!

As I may have mentioned we're 'Eurotunneling' into France this year so I can pack more goodies than usual - hurray for big car boots!  However ... when I'm on holiday I just want to faff about as little as possible so the simpler the routine the better...! Quite a few of this lot are magazine freebies or sample sizes from past beauty boxes which I need to use up...

1  Gatineau Floracil Eye Make-Up Remover - part of a recent QVC kit. Removes even the most stubborn of eye make-up so thought it would come in useful as I'm always mascara'd up - even on holiday!

2  Balance Me Pure Skin Face Wash - a magazine freebie from yonks ago - got a real zesty and refreshing smell so good to use in the mornings.

3  DHC  Deep Cleansing Oil - I have a couple of these sample sizes from past beauty boxes. I reckon an oil cleanser will be pretty soothing and effective at getting shut of all the grime after a day in the sun.

4  Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic - decanted into this travel size from my larger version.

5  Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum - I wouldn't normally take a full size glass bottle but I know this will deliver on the hydration front am/pm. Full review here.

6  Neals Yard Rehydrating Rose Daily Moisture - from one of my very first Beauty Boxes last year and still not got stuck into it! I have used this a few times recently and it's light and hydrating and also doesn't upset any eczema which may crop up - so perfect for holiday.

7  Gatineau Defi-Lift Revolumising Lip Care - still a nightly favourite for lip plumping so it's in the bag! Full review here.

8  Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream - just taking the one for morning and evening use. This is another from a beauty box that need using - meant to be soothing, brightening and lifting.

So those are my holiday skincare picks this year.  Have you used any of the above products at home or abroad? Which are your favourites?

Skincare Routine - PM

Guess this should read 'Bonsoir' rather than 'Bonjour'?

I recently wrote about my current morning routine ... here's the evening lot...!

Emma Hardie Moringa Balm - needs no into - I reviewed it way back when (actually just here).  I only use it in the evening for a darn good cleanse.  It effectively removes makeup, eye make-up and daily grime etc but I do perform a bit of an extra/double cleanse if I've had heavier slap on - say for work or an evening out - just to be sure!  I've repurchased a couple of times and am slightly panic stricken that I've started on my last pot! Although I love this product there are a couple of other cleansers  waiting in the wings so will probably wait to re-purchase with (hopefully) a QVC TSV.

Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic - again an old favourite.  I do intend introducing an exfoliating toner into the equation shortly but this is one I know I can rely on for it's soothing and re-hydrating properties.

Gatineau Melatogenine Advanced Anti-Ageing Eye Concentrate - been using this for over a year now around the eye contour every night. It's extremely concentrated so has lasted forever! The Gatineau Melatogenine range is aimed at the over 30's (yes- well that definitely includes me then!) and is all about tackling fine lines, wrinkles/expression lines etc. I am lucky I guess in that I don't have a huge amount of deep wrinkles so far but they'll all be lurking around just waiting to make an appearance. The cream has a refined/luxurious but not heavy texture, feels like 'whipped silk' and I do think it's helped on the wrinkle prevention front but how do you know for sure until you stop using something - I'll be finding out shortly.  To buy alone this would have cost over £40 but it was part of a QVC kit so was excellent VFM!

Dr Jart V7 Turnover Booster - I picked this serum up quite by chance from Boots a while ago and have been using it every night for well over a month now. There's a full review coming up so I'll not waffle on at this point but suffice to say that I'm impressed!

Emma Hardie AM/PM Moisturiser - another product  from a QVC kit.  It works fine in conjunction with a serum (not hydrating enough for me on it's own) and seems to be lasting forever! Has the signature Emma Hardie scent which I love. I'd be happy to use again but would only buy as part of a kit as it's expensive.

So that's my current nightly regime.  Have you used any of these products? If you've done a similar post leave me your link - love to have a gander!

Liz Earle Lash Definition Smudgeproof Mascara - Review

Bonjour!

The Liz Earle Lash Definition Smudgeproof Mascara is another product that was included in the recent TSV from QVC.  Naturally - being a total mascara fiend I was excited to try it...I'm always excited at the prospect of a new mascara...!

"Our water-resistant and long-lasting mascara helps you achieve perfectly defined lashes that look longer and fuller."
(source)

The brush is comprised of tiny bristles and is a standard shape and size.  I found the formula to be fairly dry which meant that it didn't glide on and was quite difficult to apply compared to some mascaras.  It works best for me if I apply two coats, one almost immediately after the other - it's not one that I can return to later on and add another coat if I fancy building the look up, as it seems to clump up on my lashes and I need to comb through.  I find it lengthens and defines but doesn't particularly add any fullness or volume.  Once on though it does leave the lashes with a natural, conditioned feel to them with no brittle or crispy thing going on - and also holds the curl up well.  It lasts well throughout the day without smudging or flaking (even in the height of hay fever season) and is really easily removed with my cleansing balm - so all is not lost.

A couple of coats just on the top ...

I'd say this mascara would probably work well for those with longer thicker lashes to achieve a natural daytime look and could make a perfect holiday mascara due to it's water resistance.  For anyone (such as myself) wanting a bit more 'oomp' to my lashes, unfortunately this isn't the one so not something I'll be re-purchasing.

The Liz Earle Lash Definition Smudgeproof Mascara comes in at £14.50/8ml and is available in Black or Brown.

Have you tried this mascara? What's your favourite mascara of the moment?

Skincare Routine - AM

Bonjour!

I've currently got myself a nice little routine going in the morning  - well it's suits me anyway - doesn't take up too much time and the products all seem to be working well together - which is always a good thing. I'll not waffle on too much about each product as I've either reviewed or will review...

Elemis Melting Cleansing Gel - I treated myself to/re-purchased this in the 'supersize' from QVC once it came back into stock, much better value for money buying the bigger version - should last for ages as you only need a little squeeze! It just seems to work for me as my morning cleanser and helps to keep my skin clear - you can read my full review here.

Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic - a repeat purchase - I think this is on most peoples' list of worthy toners. It's one I keep going back to time after time, great for it's refreshing, hydrating and soothing properties all in one sweep!

Elemis Pro-Collagen Advanced Eye Treatment - I received this in last year's Elemis TSV and have been using it every morning for the last couple of months. A lightweight liquid/serum which sinks in instantly and helps to keep the eye area hydrated. A full review to follow.

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum - another repurchase. Still loving this serum on a morning - really helps keep skin plumped up - I reckon people with oily skin could use just this alone but I like to layer it for extra hydration. Full review here.

Vichy Idéalia BB Cream - a recent discovery - I think of all the BBs I've used so far this is coming in as my all time favourite. I just don't want to use anything else on top of my serum at the moment as it's working so well and provides moisture and cover all in one go. Full review here.

So that's my little lot for the AM. Got one going for the PM too which I'll post about presently.

Are you currently using any of the above products? What's your current morning routine?

June Favourites ...

Bonjour!

Has June really come and gone - are we over half-way through the year already? Plans have already been made at work for the Christmas party - madness or what ...!

So...favourites over the last month...

Big Sexy Hair 'Spray and Play' Volumising Hairspray - got this in a beauty box a while ago.  I really like this hairspray for nights out - it adds volume, holds the style really well and lasts throughout the night.   It does leave the feel of product in your hair though so probably not one to go for if you like a more natural look and feel but works for me when I want/need extra texture and oomph!

Vichy Idealia BB Cream in Medium Shade - been using this for the last few weeks and - in an nutshell I'm impressed. Full review to follow.

Top Shop Nails in Stage Dive and Sinful Colors in Sweet Nothing - great combination of bright summer nail polishes I've been enjoying this month - like sun and sea these two (a slightly orange sun but sunny nevertheless!).  You can see my nail painting efforts here and here.

Batiste Dry Shampoo for dark hair - actually an empty - I can't seem to do without my dry shampoo. As well as drying up greasy roots etc it's great for extra texture and the dark brown pigment is ideal for my hair.  I think Batiste is on offer at Boots at the moment so probably a good time to re-purchase as it's not the cheapest and I go through it like cold water!

Liz Earle Healthy Glow Cream Blush in Rose - a lovely dewy summer blush. A little pricey but would like to save up to try another colour! Full review here.

Liz Earle Sheer Lip Gloss in Mallow - great everyday neutral lip gloss. Moisturises, gives the old lips a look of plumpness and very non- sticky I've found. A good one for popping on (without a mirror) on my way out of the door on the school run!

And finally...

I have a problem with this little lot of Peanut M&M's!  I only buy them when they're on offer (which they were last month!) but I'm addicted good and proper! I tend to take the bag with me into the front room at the end of the day to sit with hubby and watch TV. On more than one occasion I've had to send him out of the room with my M&M's in tow as I'd just eat the whole lot in one go - they're so addictive and I keep fooling/telling myself that nuts contain good fats so they can't be all bad - yes that's what I tell myself!  Anyway I did make one bag last for a few nights ... will try to stretch it a bit longer next time...wish me luck on that one!

What have been your favourites last month? Could you eat a bag of M&M's in one go?

Liz Earle Healthy Glow Cream Blush - Review

Bonjour!

I finally got to try some make up from the Liz Earle Colour range - following the recent QVC TSV - about time too!   I do like a bit of a cream blush during warmer weather and now that summer seems to have finally arrived - albeit in a somewhat sporadic fashion - the Liz Earle Healthy Glow Cream Blush in Rose seems ideal.   The Liz Earle website states   "Our creamy blush softly enhances cheeks with a healthy-looking, dewy finish. Enriched with our own natural source vitamin E."

The blusher comes boxed in a sturdy little compact (which is easy to open!) complete with a handy mirror. Rose is a mid 'fleshy toned' pink which is ideal for adding a natural flush of colour to my old apples! It has a velvety texture in the pan and is easy to blend - not too stiff or sticky and not too 'wet'.  In the above pic. I've swatched on the bottom and blended on the top.  You only need a small amount of the blush as it's really well pigmented but it can be built up for a stronger pop! I apply with my fingers and pat or dab it on (it can also be applied with a brush).  Considering it's a cream formula it lasts really well once on - most of the day in fact and doesn't seem to overly cling onto any spotty/patchy areas on my face as can sometimes be the case with cream blushers I've found.

Here it is 'in situ' (yes I know I'm pulling a stupid face as usual and apologies for the dark circles - I'd been out the night before!). Now although I had a reasonable 'flush' on my cheeks at the time of this pic. for some reason the colour always pales out on camera. Clearly need to adjust my settings - any advice on that welcome!  Anyway hope you can get a vague idea...!

The Liz Earle Healthy Glow Cream Blush costs £16.50/2g here - which is maybe a tad expensive for me as a stand alone product - however I do want to try some of the other blushers in this range (already got my eye on Peony ...!).  All in all though I do think this is a lovely product for summer - gives a healthy 'pinched cheek' glow - ideal over a bit of BB and will be great in my holiday make-up bag!

Have you tried the Liz Earle Healthy Glow Cream Blush - which is your favourite shade?

May Empties and Favourites ... (finally!)

Bonjour!

It's been (and still is) a very busy week with family/work commitments - which has left no time for blogging and probably makes this one of the latest 'Empties/Favourites' posts of in the land?  I'll just get on with it shall I...?

Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion - all finished and will be re-purchasing, great for reviving tired, sore eyes - included this in my 'Rescue Products' which you can read here.

Liz Earle Botanical Shine Shampoo and Conditioner (for Normal Hair) - I've been using this duo on and off for ages. Perfect if my scalp feels a bit stressed and flaky as I know it cleanses and conditions well but is super gentle. Had a bout of eczema on my neck recently and needed to use something I knew wouldn't sting when washing my hair in the shower ... needless to say I'll be repurchasing.

Aveeno Body Wash (for Dry and Sensitive Skin) - more of an 'empty' than a 'favourite', I've used it on and off. Has no smell and just cleanses gently, it's ok but I don't feel the same way about it as I do the Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturising Lotion ...which I also included in my 'Rescue Products' so don't think I'll be repurchasing.

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum - sadly all gone, happily I've already gotten myself another - love this product. You can read me banging on about this lovely serum in my full review here.

L'Oreal Professional tecni.art Hot Style Constructor - (shopping my 'hair product stash' here ) -  I've had this for so long that the packaging has now changed!  It's a 'thermo-active spray for texture and hold' - provides heat protection (but not stickiness I might add!).  Works best for me to create that tousled 'I'm not trying too hard with my hair' look (famous last words) and  is ideal now I've  had loads of hair chopped off!  Just spray on damp or dry hair and do whatever you want really - can be used with hairdryer, straighteners and curling tongs so quite a useful multi-purpose product and one I would re-purchase (cost me £11.00 but I don't think that's too bad for a professional product?).

Revitalash Volumizing Primer - (got this ages ago in a kit from QVC).  I don't always use an eyelash primer but this works really well to give more oomph and volume to my lashes.  It's blue in colour, dries quickly so you can get on with your chosen mascara application and doesn't cause any clumping or flaking - good product.

Max Factor Masterpiece Max Mascara - an all-time favourite which has done it's stint. Great for volumising and defining lashes, no clumps and lasts all day. A good one to have on hand to sort out a 'bad lash day', used over the top of another mascara it sorts out any mascara clumpage - a great separator!

Oh ... and another favourite here ... which is literally being finished off by the hubby as I type this post!

Only the crumbliest, flakiest chocolate, tastes like chocolate never tasted before...all that and ice-cream - amazing!

Any of my favourites yours too?

A Few Rescue Products ...

Bonjour!

These are products that I've used on an off (and re-purchased) for a while now- I find they each really help things along in their own little way ...!

Philip Kingsley Scalp Toner - my scalp is prone to itchy flaky areas at times if I'm stressed, run-down or have over-used certain hair products (I'm always subjecting my scalp to dry shampoo and hair powders). I just apply this cooling toner directly to the area/in the parting and it helps to calm the area down and temporarily stop those pesky flakes.

Simple Derma Intensive Relief Lotion - I usually stock up on this if it's on offer as it's a must-have if my eczema flares up  - the large bottle of lotion lasts for ages!  I also use it after shaving or if my skin is feeling a bit itchy and stressed (usually tops of my arms - no idea why) - it's perfume free and very gentle on the skin - it doesn't sting and stops any soreness developing.

Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturising Lotion - I am a big fan of the Aveeno hand cream but found I was getting through one tube too many so I switched to buying this large 200ml tube of moisturising lotion. I keep this downstairs and use it as my hand cream. I find it just as moisturising as a regular hand cream and if anything more soothing/comforting plus the huge tube lasts and lasts.

Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion -   Great to sweep over tired/puffy eyes in the morning (yep that's me!) to wake em up or if I'm feeling really decadent to use as a compress/eye mask type thing on cotton pads and get back in bed and lie back on a weekend (get me!).  I don't use it as an eye-make-up remover as I wear too much mascara and it's only suitable for removing light eye make-up. Also brilliant during the hay fever season - myself and my son have used this many a time to refresh sore, itchy hay fever eyes.

Nivea Rescue and Care SOS Body Lotion - leaves skin smooth, silky and plumped.  I've found this to be especially soothing on my hands (again? - yes again - my hands get very dry in all seasons!). Really seems to help lock the moisture in and keep it there and so protects skin from drying and cracking. (I found it especially effective when the weather was extra cold - was great to apply before going out to keep hands supple).  Also good on knees, elbow and any extra dry bits really!

So that's my little arsenal of must-haves, there are a few others I favour but didn't want to bombard you with too many at once so I'll save them for another post!

What are your favourite 'Rescue Products' and why?
